Fall
The third piece in my season based series of illustrations turning each season into a personification of itself based on fantasy and mythology, fall is a witch based character. Once again, she is modernized, meant to look almost innocuous, wearing a warm purple sweater and plaid leggings, tucked into a pair of combat boots. Each of these characters is meant to seem as if they’re someone you could see in your everyday life, outside of their fantastical elements. Fall wears a witches hat with a crystal moon hanging from the end, a red stone. Crystals are often associated with modern witchcraft, used to promote different aspects, and the moon heavily affects spell casting. A pentacle necklace hangs around her neck, a protective symbol, presumably warding away any evil turned her way. Bat earrings round out her accessories, as bats are often seen in the fall eating insects to stock up for hibernation, at least among the species which do. A cauldron shaped mug floats above her hand, as she uses magic to keep it warm, a cup of hot tea being an often turned to drink to stay cozy in the fall. She’s leaning against a tree, watching the leaves change and fall, something many find an enjoyable autumn past time. I also included a black cat at her feet, looking up at her, both because witches are often depicted with black cat familiars, and as an homage to my own black cat.
