This piece was created for a prompt of using monochrome red or blue as a primary color scheme to illustrate a portrait of either an angel, or a demon. I chose to do a demon with a primarily red palette, though I used a blue background, and mixed some blue into my red palette for purple accents. I chose a somewhat cheeky expression to give an air of mischief, and took a more modern approach to his outfit and accessories, while drawing inspiration from Japanese depictions of oni such as the tusk-like teeth and the red cord tassle for his earring. I wanted to give the impression that while he is a demon, he’s not necessarily evil, so much as prankish.
