Zombie Kei

This piece was inspired by my love of J-fashion, this one specifically drawing from decora-kei and fairy-kei styles. I’ve always admired the highly accessorized nature of J-fashion street styles, and the variety within them that ranges from extremely bright and rainbow fashions to dark, gothic styles. I also wanted to juxtapose the cutesy styles and rainbow colors with some darker motifs and body horror, as I’ve always found a sense of peace and catharsis when finding the beauty of what scares you. As a result, I made her a zombie, missing limbs and with exposed bones and guts, but still smiling and decorating her body. It evokes a theme of self-love, and changing your body to what makes you feel good, which is something I’m passionate about. I have always believed it to be more important to feel comfortable in your own skin than to worry what others think of you, or what disadvantages you might have.
