Harley Quinn
This piece was designed for a prompt with the idea of a new Netflix show featuring a celebrity and using digital portraiture as part of its marketing. I chose to use Margot Robbie in her role as Harley Quinn, as I quite enjoyed her performance, especially in the film Birds of Prey, as it separated her character from simply being an object of desire for a man and fleshed her out as more of her own person. I played with the idea of an animated show focusing on her iteration of the character, and used several of her comic logos as inspiration for a logo for the show, keeping the bright colors of her design here to channel the aesthetics, which remind me of scene fashion. I think the scene subculture and its ties to early 2000s “lol random XD” internet humor could make for an interesting show if it followed a similar vein as Invader Zim, while delving into her personality and backstory. While I don’t think the style I chose would be easy to animate, I think it makes for good promotional artwork, and it let me put some more focus on the detail work in the jewelry and hair, as well as practice my anatomy work with her hand and her facial angle.
